Front brake, what's going on here?

Looks like yambits has a lot of stuff I'm gonna need..just one more dumb question and I'm done. My banjo bots are all gunked up and they look like they are 5/8" but most I see are 1 1/4" ...I know they are 10mm but what length will work? And I might as well go all the way and get a S.S. line I think stock is 41"

Hey guys, I got a few more questions. My front caliper and MC has a lot of crap and corrosion inside it, and the paint especially on the MC is all messed up. So I plan on cleaning and repainting them. But I just want to explain what I am figuring on doing and you let me know if any of it would be a big NO-NO...so here goes:
First soak them both in brake fluid to try to soften up any gunk left over inside, and use a dremel tool with a small nylon bristle brush first to get out corrosion and gunk. Followed by a small polishing wheel to finish em out.
That's inside, then I need to strip the paint off of them, I bought rust oleum aircraft stripper (methylene cloride really) and spray them down to remove paint. Once all paint is off I will sand areas to be painted with fine grit paper, blow the crap out of em with compressed air, final cleaning with acetone, and mask them off and paint them with VHT caliper paint.
DOES ANY OF THIS SOUND LIKE IT WILL RUIN OR DESTROY CALIPER/MC???
I AM MOSTLY WORRIED ABOUT THE STRIPPER. wish I had access to blasting equip. But I dont. Nor the time or $$ to send them to be blasted. Want to do it over the weekend, just gonna go get a Dremel tool
Knockoff from harbor freight. There is no way to clean up inside the piston area of the caliper or the reservoir in MC by hand with a toothbrush...crazy...never had to do this to a break system so it my first time dealing with it. Anyone who has done with crap before have any pointers?? How do you get em cleaned out good without wrecking them??

Paint stripper would ruin any rubber part in its wake. But from what I can see you took everything apart. I would have a go at it just make sure everything is rinsed thoroughly afterwards as to not have any stripper mixing around with brake fluid.
Also make sure that all ports on the MC and caliper are permeable (don't ask why I emphasize) and do not let any paint on interior surfaces .
I used VHT caliper paint on my stuff also and it came out great.

Thanks for the vote of confidence jeff, the shine of this build has worn off for me already. Now it's just - get the damb thing back together. It does not help that no one in a 150mi radius from me wants to have anything to do with motorcycle parts or services, or those who do literally work out of their living room and have about the same capabilities as I do!! But I will finish this rant on my other "my bike" thread if you want to read my bitching. Another rainy cold day up here in the sticks, cheers.:shootme:

No bike shops where you live? I guess you will need to learn what you can if you need to fix stuff. It's nice to have one around if there are things/tools you don't have.

I would say the inside of the caliper and MC cleaned up real nice!

now I gotta strip the paint, repaint them, and throw some new parts in there and get em back on the bike! I will post progress pics...
SO FAR SO GOOD.

LEMME TELL YA, THAT AIRCRAFT STRIPPER AIN'T NO JOKE! THESE THINGS LOOK BEAUTIFUL! NOW KINDA THINKING MAYBE JUST CLEAR COAT THEM WITH HI-TEMP. IF I CAN FIND IT. AND I GOT ALL MY REBUILD PARTS TODAY FROM YAMBITS.
CHK IT OUT:

IT IS UNREAL HOW NICE THESE THINGS CLEANED UP. THEY LOOK BRAND NEW!
I HOPE I DON'T SCREW UP THE PAINT JOB!
GONNA SPEND THE TIME TO DO IT RIGHT.

I did decide to just leave them raw.
But now I gotta get this new piston in! I am being very careful and only using hand strength, but this is about as far as I can get it in. Using a socket inside the piston so I have something to press down on. Wish I had a small piece of wood and a c-clamp to carefully compress it in, but I'm at home not the shop....any suggestions? ??

Got it in, a c-clamp is man's best friend! Just be careful to apply pressure equally.

And the dust boot with new ring went right in.

Got it all back together, looks awesome!

BRAKES ARE COMING ALONG NICELY! :bike:

Ok, got my MC all rebuilt. Went together like butter. AND... I got my chinkie Hong kong MC in the mail today too! So now I gotta figure which one to use... I am tempted to try out the chinkie dinky one, but I will prob. Go with the OEM. Got a S.S. line for it too, so it's gonna look sweet.
For some reason they also sent me a face molding router bit with the MC!!! someone out there is prob. Waiting for their router bit like WTF right now!!

OK, THERE IT IS. ALL CLEANED UP, REBUILT, S.S. LINE. WORKS GREAT. Not the most powerful braking system in the world, but for an 81' I'd say not too bad.
This is where this thread ends for me.
THANK YOU ALL FOR A TON OF HELP AND GOOD ADVICE. APPRECIATE IT.;)
