Its time for new tires and I'm throwing around the idea of pulling my front fender off and going with a big front tire on the same rim. Stock is 100/90-18, how big can I go without being ridiculous? Also, '80 xs400, not special.
Actually, from what others have said, I think stock is 90/90X18 with 100/90 being one size up. I initially thought 100/90 was stock, too, because my bike came with one but have learned since it is not so. I am still running a new 100/90 on the front and don't think I would go any wider - especially on a stock rim.
Anything bigger than stock is ridiculous. The stock rim was designed to run a narrow tire. One size up works ok but not ideal. If you want to run wider use a wider rim. Either convert a rear or find a front that's wider.
Oh, the same applies to the rear.
