Not sure why this worked.... The oil in my lil round window was only a hair below half, but when I added enough oil to bring the level a bit above half, finding the clutch just got a lot easier. When the level was a tiny bit low, it was almost impossible... Maybe this will help someone else.

I know there is a whole detailed procedure here for clutch adjustment - complete with pictures, that I can - for the moment - skip
