harness butchered by previous owner

need a good diagram to do just bare minimum wiring.it's a 1980 xs 400..it has separate rectifier and regulator.also hhas ignition module.

There have been quite a few threads on wiring diagrams, including a few with more basic diagrams.
Punching "wiring diagram" into the search box at the top of the page with bring up quite a few results. There might not be too many basic diagrams, simply because they are so basic.
I'd get a copy of the stock wiring diagram, understand it, and then eliminate what you don't need.
Drewpy's rewire thread will come up in the search. Should be very helpful for the rewire process.

thanks.think i found one to work.found out my regulator and rectifier are bad.will a combo work or should i go back with separate ones?

Lots of folks use the combo, As they were standard on later bikes. I prefer separate because they are cheap at the junkyards here.
