1980 SG. Stock wiring. Recently purchased. Am I right in assuming that the headlight will only illuminate after engine start? And it is permanently illuminated after that? (unlike XS650 where there is a separate ON/OFF switch)

Cheers mate. If you're up to speed on XS400 TCI , I'd appreciate your thoughts on my recent post "No Spark".
I will take a look! I am always interested in keeping the old bikes on the road.
Always-on headlights for motorcycles became mandatory in US in 1979. So, manufacturers ditched the switches.
An XS650 that has a switch will be made before 1979.
