you may want to adjust your clutch cable, that could be out of adjustment. There's a how-to somewhere on the forum but it's also in the manual.
As for the flash rust in the tank, next time dry the inside using a hair dryer straight away. With the fuel cap and the petcock off you should be able to blow through the tank so it dries in like 15 minutes.
