HELP how do I get the starter chain on

It's a tight fit so here is what I did:

  1. Remove all starter-motor retaining bolts
  2. Slide the starter-motor back until you can tilt the drive gear down a bit (keep it close to it's final position though)
  3. Put the chain around the alternator rotor sprocket
  4. Put the drive sprocket into the chain and pull it up towards the Start-Motor drive gear
  5. Engage the internal drive teeth of the drive sprocket with the start-motor drive gear, just a little bit (about 3 or 4 milimeters, 1/4 inch)
  6. While keeping pressure on the drive sprocket like you are pushing it the rest of the way on to the Starter-Motor drive gear, wiggle the starter-motor back into it's position
  7. Press the Sprocket on while you replace the Starter-Motor to its fixed position

That should get it on there, then simply bolt down the starter-motor and put the starter chain tensioner blade in, new gasket, and close 'er up!
