How compatible is a 78 with an 80?

I have a 78 Yamaha xs 400 and an 80 Yamaha xs 400. I'm using parts from both to build one bike. Most of the bike will be from the 78, but I was curious to how similar the two are/ is one bike better than the other in certain areas?.... Any help is greatly appreciated
