Currently in the process of rebuilding my '81 Special II after it threw a rod.

I got new jugs, pistons, rods, and crank off ebay, from the same bike. When I got the jugs off my bike I saw that they had "A" on them vs the replacements have "B". What does this mean?

A couple other things - there was lots of very thin metal bits in the bottom, almost like foil. What could this be from? I'm hoping it's just fragments from the exploded rod cap/crank. Lastly, there's a pan sort of thing in the oil pan on both sides that is held in place by a pin that goes all the way across. One side is fine but the other side was hit by the rod and is bent. What is this piece there for? It's just a thin metal piece..

sounds like the white bearing metal.

the pan thing is an oil baffle to stop the oil foaming and reducing oil pressure to terminal levels
