I changed the oil on my bike last week, and went to dump the used oil today out of the catch pan and found a spring in there :wtf:. I looked in the manual and couldn't find any pictures to show where it might go. What is this for and is it bad that i ran the bike for about 20 miles without this spring? Thanks!

Hope this helps. There is a smaller spring inside the filter bolt (23) and a larger one outside the bolt (18).

17 is a washer, 16 is the rubber grommet on the filter as is 16, the other rubber grommet part of the filter.

Keeps the filter against the port where the oil flows out, but allows oil around the filter if the filter gets too restrictive from getting plugged.
