I pulled the lead from the plug cap so I could determine the cap resistance, but could not find normal values in the manual. I have an '82 so have electronic ignition and would assume 5K ohms resistance is normal, but can anyone confirm this as so. BTW both measured as 9K resistance, typical for 30 year old caps. The high tension leads are copper core however I was surprised to find the year marked on them. Now I don't know if all leads are date coded but it is a good way to determine the year of manufacture.

What I would do it get some 0 ohm caps and replace your plugs with some ngk BPR7EIX iridium plugs. They have 5k ohms of resistance witch is all you need. The stock setup would have a 7-9k ohm cap and a non-resistance plug.

I went with 5k ohm caps and non-resistor plugs. The only reason is because I can get the plugs locally and I was changing them frequently while I was still tuning the motorcycle.
