I am going with pods on my build cause I like the looks of them bettter! There is some rejetting involved in order to use them. The other thing I find it easier to get the pod filters and cheaper then the stock filters.
I have air boxes on my '80 because I want the stock look and because I don't want to mess with jetting the carbs. My son is going with pods on his '81 for the look. If you are doing a good bit of stripping and customizing, pods may look more in line with that style.
The rejetting isn't too bad and the difference in the sound, even with stock pipes is substantial. I just did mine, new carb boots, pods, jet and sync and it sounds mean as hell.
