Rear shock relocation

Hey guys, this isn't necessarily an xs specific question, but more of a general performance related question. I've seen this particular shock relocation on a few bikes, and short of it looking cool, what does it do for handling? Anyone seen/done/ridden this format before?

This thread has pictures of our completed cafe project with relocated shock geometry similar to the Honda pictures you posted. It rides pretty nice, but never having ridden a stock XS400 I can't say if it is an improvement or not.

If you weren't sure of it's improvements in performance, what inspired you to do it?
