SOHC/DOHC Ignition Coils??

Hey guys......

I have a pair of ignition coils from a '78 XS400 SOHC......
Are they compatible for my '81 XS400 DOHC (seca/maxim) motor,or do I need to get different ones for the DOHC??
It's a custom build,so not worried about mounting them etc...just whether they will work!!!

Any help much appreciated

Points ignition needs coils for points. TCI ignition needs coils for TCI... So my answer is no...

77-79 xs400's used a 4ohm coil and the 80-82/84 soch-dohc xs400's used a 3ohm coil

OK,thanks......so I need to look out for the correct coils for my DOHC,and sell the one's i've got !

The older 4ohm/5ohm coils used on points ignitions pull less power. They should work, but the spark won't be as hot. They would work if you needed to test the motor.
