I picked up a chain and sprocket set.

The new sprocket has a flat side and a side with some cuts. This looks a little different than OE.

Which side do I mount this thing?

Here it is.

Cut side in but that sprocket is setup for the 77-79 bikes with the 18" rear wheel. The bikes with the 16" wider tires use the ones with the off set to it like the one that is on your wheel now. If you use the stock 120/90-16 tire the chain will just clear the tire with the flat sprocket. For peace of mind you want to return it and get the correct one.

I can't really return it, it was part of a set.

But OK. I ordered what I think is the correct one.

Anyone wanna buy a 77-79 sprocket? :D

Unless you care about looks the sprocket can be flipped to have the same thing as one not cut. There appears to be another countersink level below the main one though, if that has to contain like a bearing assembly or the like........the old sprocket will have that one if it is needed.

Or make up some spacers the same thickness as the sprocket relief depth cut out of washers and ground with flats to clear and yet still have enough support area.
