Starter Rebuild

Hey guys,
Is the inside the starter supposed to look like this?:confused:

They get dusty on the inside from the brushes wearing down, but what you have is nasty! No, it shouldn't look like that. Was the starter cavity on the moror all nasty as well? Should be perfectly clean.
 
The pan where the starter sits had just a little road dust. I will take a picture tonight of the cavity.
The starter looked great on the outside. I didn't clean any of that. I hope with a thorough cleaning and new brushes, it will be good to go...Fingers Crossed!

I also cannot get the screws to budge on the outside of the case. Anyone have ideas on how to do this with out stripping them. :confused:
