Can anyone recommend replace tires (sizes/brands) for a 1982 XS400. What size is best for the front and for the back.

use the search or the sticky thread with all the manuals in to find the sizes. Once you get the size from there, it doesnt take much homework to find a good carrier online

What type of riding do to mainly do, commuting, bar hopping?

I kinda wish i had bought dunlop k180 s for my bike so i am going to suggest getting the fattest ones of them for your bike.
