Since these bikes are somewhat notorious for electrical problems, I thought I'd ad a voltage gauge to my bike. Plus, I wanted to build something.

I built the pod out of a piece of 2.25" exhaust pipe, a piece of 3/8" steel brake line, and a frost plug(engine block).

I attached some pics.

Good idea. Positioning won't interfere with kickstart? From what I can see of sneak preview of your bike it looks pretty sharp, clean engine and killer paint job on the tank. Gas sight tube? Tooled leather seat?

cool idea, I have a similar setup on the other side but using an oil pressure gauge.

I used a flask cup for my housing

Two things:

1) Pics!
2) I thought an oil pressure gauge was pretty much useless on these bikes since they are high volume, low pressure?

I'm I posted it up somewhere, but can't find it.

Its not installed yet as I'm still building the bike. posted it in my blog, but here are the pictures I got.

Looks good, I like the way its mounted. So is there enough OP in these engine for a gauge to be effective? I read somewhere that the XS650 only puts out about 4-15lb because it has ball bearings rather than shell bearings. I thought about putting an OP gauge on too but read that and went to voltage.

TBH I've no idea,I know peeps have put gauges on xs400's but no idea what they will read. just a bit of bling :D

I understand that. Looks good. I might try one myself just for the heck of it. Where do you plan on connecting it?

it goes directly where the oil pressure switch is, same thread size so its good to go.:)

drewpy I can see you sittin takin a coffee break and getting insiparation, what did you find for a thermos lid. hahaha looks good.you guys commin up with cool ideas.

Drewpy, I installed a gauge on my bike today and was seeing 70psi plus. So much for low pressure. Actually that gauge broke after a run!

I tried another gauge today and it reads 70-80 also. Hopefully a 100psi gauge is enough.
