Today I removed all the bolts from my XS400 and put them in a bucket. The fun has just started!
Today, I did nothing but post on the forum about this video I made a few weeks back:
First starting attempt Have patience with te link
Two days ago, I installed powerfilters and fixed an exhaust, then made starting attempt number 2. It went great!
Cheers
Apparently that vid is private!
Today I was positive I could push start my 76 360 to start it because it has low amps after a winter off the battery tender. (thanks unreliable alcoholic friend! )
The bike and I ended up at the bottom of ever, and I mean EVERY hill I could roll it down trying to get the engine to catch.
New battery purchase imminent. I feel as I should be hung by my jumper cables for my failure.
Today I fabbed up some more decent minimal wiring for my starting & testing setup... I haven't got the engine running yet, but who knows.
Should run without battery power to the coils soon!
[EDIT]
Okay, so this is the scheme I've got going on right now, pulled it from the wiring thread and adapted it for clarity and correctness.
I have pretty much ignored the brown wire, mostly because I didn't understand the purpose of the connection between red and brown wire (indicated by the green arrow) which I have come to think is crucial.
I guess the generator creates an alternating current and brown and red together make one steady current? I'm not sure...
Can anyone clarify this for me?
Many thanks!
