Wiring harness compatability between years

I have an 80' XS, and i would like to know what wiring harnesses are compatible with my bike.

I don't have many stock things like turn signals and electric start. I think i only have headlights, high beams, and brake lights.

i ask because finding my year for most things is difficult at best.
So what years of wiring harnesses can i use?

best way is to check the wiring diagrams at the back of haynes manual. the same models will use the same harness in the title.

A different diagram would indicate a different harness

My somewhat educated guess is that '80, '81 and '82 Heritage would be the same. This is because of the change to electronic ignition in '80. Years before '80 may work with mods, but for ease of use- those three years.

If all you have is a minimal electrics throw your stock harness out and start from scratch.
