Hey Folks,
Could use some help here.
I've been enjoying my XS400 (SOHC '79) for over a year now and have done some basic work on it.
Now the winter is approaching, and I have another bike to use as daily driver, so I'd like to do some more work on my bike.

The next things are on the agenda:
new carbs with K&N pods (complete kit from a familiar shop in Florida :) )
2 in 1 exhaust
shed weight
new tires
replace regulator and rectifier for one unit
new battery (as small as possible)
unshrouding valves (?)
new rear shocks
progressive suspension fork springs
powdercoating and new HT paint for engine

Some of these are quite basic but I have some questions about them though, this is what I'm not sure off.

- exhaust system, any tips about what a good muffler is to get more power, better performance, and are there any plug and play 2-in-1 exhausts for the XS400 available?
- smaller battery, what is the lowest Ah I can go? running no battery is no option with this bike as far as I know of.
- any tips about a reasonably priced set of rear shocks?
- does anyone have experience with progressive suspension fork springs and...
- unshrouding valves, anybody here done that?
- i've been told the engine is not supposed to be without paint because there's a relatively high percentage of zinc in this alloy. Ergo, no paint is corrosion. On the other hand, I've been riding this bike rain or shine and haven't noticed anything weird.

All help would be awesome!!
Thanks.

Here's what it looks like now:
