my carbs have been sitting for awhile and i really dont feel like going into them, so for about 200 i can get them rebuilt by someone else, or for 300 i can buy the flat slide kit from mikes, my question is, will they fit and work right? i know jetting would be different, but has anyone done it?

well, you'll have to go into the new carbs to change jets and float heights in order to get the fuelling right.

If you don't know how to clean the inside of carbs, I suggest you won't know how to jet a new carb. I guarantee they'll be off and on the bike a few times!

i know carbs, i know how to jet, and i know 30 year old carbs with stuck jets half stripped screws and old varnished gas is not even close to what i wanna spend my time doing on this bike, more or less wondering if its been done, and if the stock boots fit the new carbs because i know the ones in the kit wont fit my motor.

sorry dude, i didn't know what you knew!

I know that peeps in the past have fitted CR34mm carbs and also 32mm del'orto's so it can be done!

I'm sure there was someone on ebay that was selling new mikuni's a couple of years ago!

The ones MikesXS sells are based on the Keihin PWK carb. They are the 28mm carb body bored to 32mm for the XS650. I wonder if the regular 28mm Keihin PWK would work better for the 400? :umm:

you guys remember when i said i didnt wanna touch them because i knew it would be trouble? WELL.. i did, and i stripped both pilot gets, broke a main off in the emulsion tube, i got everything out by tapping in a torx bit, so today i get my new jets, put them in, its not running right, only on one cylinder, i take the carbs off for ferther cleaning, well i take one emulsion tube out, its call glogged up, go to take the second out, its broken in half, and dirty as you can imagine, i guess where im going with this is, anyone know where to get one? or am i screwed? carbs are a pain,..

and my bikes so pretty i just wanna ride the thing,

only one close would be the Needle Jet 336-Y0 and im not sure it would work with my stock needles, any insight? ill take a picture and show you guys the issue,

anyone else ever done this?

Sorry if i missed it somewhere, but what is the year of your bike?
I have seen the tubes on _bay for an 81' S

Needle Jet - Y-O is the same fitment as 336-Y0 but stock instead of richer, it's just a different color in the photo. I have a '78 too, and those tubes look identical. These tubes are all described as for "(1980-84) stock Mikuni BS 34 CV Carbs." All of the main jets I purchased from mike's for my '78 also carry this same description.

Breaking things can be a tough lesson, but now you know not to be too rough. In general when something is very hard to remove there is something wrong. It's often better to stop and think about a plan.

i didnt break the tube, it was broken in the carb already, the brass just gets brittle, and i have no doubt the tubes from mikes will fit, im just wondering if they will work right, stock on my bike is X-6, they are Y-0, if they were the same, i would assume they would have the same designation, could be wrong though, but thats why im asking, plus, i have read the needles from mikes dont work in our carbs, well this is what the needle goes into, so gotta be something to that,

I just googled: mikuni needle jet "x-6" 689

It looks like there is a KTM that uses the same needle jet. Going costs are about $17 per each.

I am pretty sure this is the same part.

thanks guys for actually putting some effort into looking for me, alot of forums wouldnt do that, that one for 35 i would pay, but sirius has the full carb kit for 32, with the tube, but out of stock, said to be back in stock in a month, might turn my attention to other things and hope they get back in stock sooner then later, they are only a couple provinces over so shopping would be cheaper and quicker aswell.
