Hi there, My name is Bram. This is my first season riding, and I love it! I have a Yamaha 1983 XS400 Maxim, and it's been running really great, though recently there's been a weird whistling coming from the ignition (or at least in that general area). It worries me so I haven't been riding...
Hey all, I finally got to get my bike out on the highway and put on some miles (about 180mi) over the 4th of July weekend. I've been busy since but during all that riding I realized that I have a fairly decent leak from under the clutch cable/chain cover. After getting to take it off and run the...
I was wondering if anyone has successfully put a fuel guage on an xs400?
I'm still getting used to the bike, my question is, which way should I turn the petcock for the reserve section of the tank.
I got bored yesterday so I built a new set of bars for my bike. I took pics of them unpainted but will snap a finished pic also.
They are made from 7/8" DOM 1/8" wall tubing, and cold rolled 1/2" round bar. I threaded the end of the bar and sweated some 7/8" thick wall DOM for collars...
I'd like to get rid of my factory throttle and replace it with one without switches. None of my switches are connected anyway.
I notice Emgo has throttles but they have lots to chose from. Does anyone know which will work on my bike (81 XS400 Heritage) without changing cables. Or is there...
Anyone know how to open up the tach gauge? The screws holding the gauge face in place have come loose and now the face is spinning all over the place. Any tips or previous experience would be greatly appreciated.

when i first got the bike, the electric starter worked fine. It might have missed a few times when i pressed the button but my memory is hazy. Now i won't get a click or anything and it seems pretty electronic related to me, tried kicking starter over to see if it was jammed but that doesn't...

I bought my 1982 XS400 Heritage Special in the fall and have been puttering away at getting it ready for the road in the spring. The left side mirror is smashed, does anyone have one sitting around? The local shop can get one for $40, but I was hoping for less.
