Well the fun can begin. Got the bike stripped this weekend. Will be bringing it to work to get sand blasted and welded. I will need to make a new electric/battery box as the ones I made were for a hardtail and won't fit.
Got the frame cleaned up and all the old brackets cut off. Am so glad I didn't ride the bike before tearing it apart. The PO had some stuff modified and all I can say is wow. I broke 2 of the welds with a good smack of the hammer. Will be sandblasting this week to see what other dodgy stuff I can find.
Got my tank primed and the first 3 costs of the base color. Not sure if I like it yet, but it's a start. Frame should be finished and ready for paint by Friday. Then it's just a couple of small things and I can start putting it back together.
Picked up a set of stock exhaust from levdir. Just have a couple more things to fix on the frame, weld battery/electrical box then I can start putting her back together.
Spent 3 hrs at work today working on the bike. Man am I glad I didn't ride this before fixing it! Got my forward controls finished, frame welded, and new electric/battery box tig welded up. Not much more to get her ready for inspection.
I wanted to make sure it would pass the outta province so yeah I went a but overboard lol. I am planning on putting a small brace across to support between the rear suspension. I need to wait for my fender to be finished. I will take some pics today of the rear suspension.
Picked up my front tire. Decided to just replace the bad front one as the rear tire is brand new. Found an Avon roadrunner sm20 19" front tire for $30. Buddy bought the bike with it on and didn't like it. Still got the hairs on it so score. Gonna swing by levdirs and measure up a seat pan for him and make a copy of the missing front motor mounts. Should have all the welding done and paint in 2 weeks.
Had a very interesting conversation with a friend I have seen in yrs. Turns out his brother has a 2 car garage completely dedicated to working on bikes. And the bonus is he's a welder by trade as well. He has a tig machine there I can use anytime. Excited.
