I live in Squamish. This is my advice from getting my license last year.

If you have any concern's that your bike might not be street legal, go to ICBC ASAP and see if you can meet the guy doing the test's. He or she will tell if your bike is street legal. Thing`s seem pretty loose in BC as to STREET LEGAL. ICBC did not care or ask if my bike was street legal to get insurance (or for that matter even if I had a bike license)There may be a better way to get your bike street legal but getting the guy who is giving you the license for your bike can`t fail.
With that said, see my motorcycle skill's test below..
1) For the knowledge test get all the book's from ICBC. Read the first book and practice here (using class 8 and doing 40 question's till you get them all right) before you go to ICBC. There will still be a few question's that may throw you at ICBC but..

Book your motorcycle skills test ASAP if your ready
2) For the motorcycle skills test. Read the second book and try to get out and practice.
Bring the bike on a truck or with a licensed supervisor. If you show on any other way, they will fail you.
Practice short stop`s! - If you lock up front or back tire`s during this test they will fail you!!!
Be able to do tight turn`s and don`t drop your bike`
There was a number of guy`s in Squamish who showed up with NON DOT bike`s and the instructor let them do this test BUT told them what needed to be fixed before they did the full motorcycle test with the bike. DO NOT count on this. Otherwise you`ll need to re-book this.
Book your full motorcycle test ASAP if your ready
3) full motorcycle licence. If you show up and your bike is not street legal, NO TEST. You`ll need to re-book this test.
I believe you have 1 year to do above otherwise you have to start all over.
