Make and model? 9 Digit VIN I’m confused

My fiancés dad gave me this bike but I don’t know the make and model exactly. I’m assuming it’s a 1982 xs400 maxim but that’s just a guess based on research. VIN is only 9 digits on the side of the frame starting with 12R. I’m new to the motorcycle community so I appreciate any and all feedback

You're right. Mine is exactly the same, it's a 1982 xs400, DOHC model

12R indicates the bike is either a 1982 or 1983 XS400K Maxim. If the next digits start with a zero (0XXXXX), the bike is a 1982 model year bike. If the next digits start with a one (1XXXXX), is is a 1983 model year bike.
