Vecta's 79 xs restoration

thanx drewpy:thumbsup: so now i need just one more square insert and 4 bushes .... think i might get there in the end ..... 3 is better then none at all

 well the plan of action today is to pull the carbs again and strip them clean and then boil ...... if i don't come back the wife either killed me or im in the dog house  wish me luck

well looking good so far the old girl starts and is running little high on the rpm ticking over around 2000 had it down to about 1200 then she quit
think i need to put the idle screw in 1/4 of a turn and will try again when she cools down fires up first kick and also with the starter motor ...... i see light at the end of the tunnel ...... think im going to get the power washer out and try and blast the old oil off the bottom of her it's smoking bad when she warms up as oil is all over the pipes .....
took a little spin around the block and all gears are good .... back brake still sticking front brake works well we are close to getting another xs on the road :bike::thumbsup:

and some new pics to show where i am at with the restore .... long way to go yet
side covers are on and with the new tank emblems

still need to find a seat yet but thats a long way off other things needed first
i have mirrors but need new brake and clutch levers
i have some short stem turn signals but looking for the rubber bushings to mount them in the correct spot
need to get the turn signal switch as the high low beam switch is broke on mine
dont know if the unit can be pulled apart and fixed or not

was going to change the oil tonight but hit a problem the drain bolt at the bottom of the motor wont budge soaked it with wd-40 and left it sitting and still it wont move
any other ideas to get it out ??
and just checking its not a left hand thread is it ??

you can try the bolt on the left of the engine under the alternator cover.

It wont shift all the oil out, but then you could undo the 6 small bolts on the oil screen filter to get the rest out and clean the filter too :) careful when re-tightening, they are only 6 lbs ft torque.

just a little update

one rubber bushing down and 3 more to find
and then i can add turn signals to the old girl
one step at a time i will get her back like she should be:thumbsup:

you can try the bolt on the left of the engine under the alternator cover.

When my crank case was filled with gas at one point I used this side drain plug to empty more oil out. I held the bike parallel to the ground while it was on the kickstand/front tire. It felt really light to me, but this might be dangerous for other people

well got another box in the mail
but still not sure if they will look ok on the old girl
i got a set of turn signals smaller then the stock ones but i think i can make them work when i get the rubber bushings in

i'm thinking the short arm front and back is the way to go
them others look like they need to be on a power wheels or something

them tiny ones was only $15 for the set of 4 so no real loss

well i know now what the plan of action is tomorrow
1, pull carbs yet again
2, clean the carb bodys i got from xschris
3,swap everything over to the new (to me ) carb body's
4,set the idle to 3 turns out and don't bust the new screws i got in today
the old ones are broke in the carb body on the bike now
5, beer is needed only when they above list is done
6, put carbs back on bike
7, another beer might be in order if she runs
8, check timeing and set timeing if needed
9, beer and BBQ going to be a good day
