What headers fit what years?

I need some head pipes or a 2-1 for a '77.

I see lots of Special exhausts for sale, but the pipes look different to me....more curved/rounded.
My search also showed up something about angled exhaust ports on some models?

If I only need some head pipes, what will work on my bike/frame? Not worried about muffler fitment or hangers. I can figure that out.

Any sohc xs400 header will work if you are using a custom muffler. But I do think on the square head motors the (ring) that holds it on has to be from a square head motor as the later ones are thicker and shaped different.

Here are two head pies one is from a 80-82 "special" bike with the muffler cut off and the other is from a 77-79 standard model.

So if I have the split washers and finned clamps, any pipe up to...what? '81? should work?
