1982 maxim. Numbers on the box are TID12-07 12R-10. Anyone know what will work?

Any TID12-07 or -08. -07 are preferred as they have a better advance curve. These TCI modules are specific to the DOHC XS400's as best as I've determined. Expect to pay around $100 for a used module.
It is possible to rebuild the module, if you are good with a soldering iron and basic electronics. The capacitors and power transistors are known failure points, as are cold solder joints. It might be worth the effort to reflow the solder joints to see if that fixes yours.

Well, so far I have not ran across any with a 12. Most are a 14 - something. But that was ebay. Any other leads on sites?

A quick search of eBay using "xs400 maxim ignition" found 3 TCI modules advertized as "CDI Box" by Grimm Cycle Salvage for $150.50US each. I noticed that all 3 had the factory ID sticker removed, which makes me suspicious. As with all electrical parts, Grimm offer no warranty but claim to replace defective parts... It's your $, you decide if you want to deal with them.
