Does anyone know what stock mirrors came on the 1980 XS400, on my bike I have chrome ones that have the Yamaha emblem on them. Also why is the left side higher then the right? Any thoughts?

The original mirrors should look something like this: http://p2m.mbike.com/000/003/222/62535356.jpg

You may have aftermarket mirrors. Look at the base of the mirrors where they attach to the bike for an adapter like this: https://www.mikesxs.net/parts/img250/16-3001.jpg

Yamaha likes to use a left-handed thread on one of the mirrors (the right one I believe) but most aftermarket mirrors are right-handed; this usually requires an adapter be installed and that can raise the height of one of the mirrors if an adapter is used only on one side.

I might be wrong, but this came to mind. Take pictures is you want a more definitive answer. I can only guess without them.

My 80 and 82 both had these on them when I got them. They both have the yamaha logo on them. I know the pre-80 bikes used the mickey moues ear ones but I wonder if both where available and the style was up to the buyer when the bike was bought.
