YAMAHA XS400 12E restoration

Hello everyone..

Long time reading this forum so I thought it was time to start a thread. My name is Vytautas and here is my old 1982 years yamaha xs400 12E. I brought it from one guy who whant to take it apart and sell to the junk yard. I decided to buy and restore it. First there was problem with carbs, few things mising, then spark coils were bad. After some repairs motorcykle was start up.

the bike was with no document so I have to buy a frame with document and put all motorbike on the new frame. Then I have to paint it, because i need reall color for registrating. so after few weeks motorbike looks like this.

as a paiment for the job client gave me this motorbike. So now I have two YAMAHA.

After registration motorbike was taked to pieces again and I started to restore it.
The frame and other pieces sand blasted and powder coated

thanks xschris so next.. all parts cleaned, painted and now again taking all parts together step by step. Brought new turn lights..

I'm always amazed at stories about bikes without title paperwork and governments that won't issue new papers.
Someone else recently posted about an xs400 with only 900 miles that had to be parted out for lack of title.
They'll reissue registration up here as long as the VIN isn't flagged as stolen, even then it's not impossible.

this bike wasn't stolen, I check in the police before I buy it. The owner of this bike died and didn't wrote the legacy for his family of this bike, so the bike belongs to him. Its was much esier to buy a frame with document and put oll parts on it. In Lithuania don't need engine VIN code for motorbike witch made until 1997 years. So I was sucsesfull to do this motorbike legal on the roads

hello ArtursF next work is aliuminium and chrom parts polishing, sorry for foto quality. In winter at my basement is very dark

Looks great! Welcome to the forum. What was your process for polishing the chrome?

hello JaredK I polish the chrome after aliuminium, polish aliuminium with green polish pasta (there was russian PASTA GOJA or green stone), when green pasta go smooth on the disck (when I polisk aliuminium) then I take one chrome part and polish it. After that I put pasta on a disck and take aliuminium part again then chrome, this proces remove all small scraches from chrome.. Maybe you understand my method because I a litlle bit dificuilt speak in english

The chrome looks great. I've been working on mine with steel wool and some aluminum foil and water.

I dont know yet what I do with that red yamaha, I think I have to sell it in spring, because I dont need two bikes
