Rescued my 79 xs400f from a friends backyard bushes a few months ago and I have been slowly pulling it apart when I had time. It is in real bad shape but I am ready to start on building my own cafe racer:D

It has been parked since the mid 80's and been left outside for years:(

First step is to clean up some work space in the garage and replace the 60watt bulbs with some florescent lights from home depot:)

Both master cylinders are garbage and most of the bar controls are broken or seized and something is shorting in the electrical with the new battery in..

looks like a fun project. you say, "Rescued my 79 xs400f". is it new to you? or are you the one who parked it there 20+ years ago??

Wow looks like you have a lot of work on your hands there. I will be nice to see another one saved:thumbsup:

Got myself a helmet this weekend at the motorcycle show in Toronto

I also ordered a universal rear set and seat pan off eBay so I can get to work. Should be here in a few weeks.

Got my rear set and the tail. The seat pan is like 1/2" to narrow at the shock mount so I think i am going to cut the rear of the frame up and narrow it just a little and weld in a solid flat loop to support the pan.

It has been a little on the cold side for working on the bike but hoping to start fabricating it up soon. In the mean time I tried cleaning one carb with Pinesol and it worked amazing:)

With being out of a job I have some free time to work on my bike. I pulled the motor and brought into the nice warm basement to pull it apart for a good cleaning.....

Arent these motors nice? Soo light weight! Don't need a lift, to move it around! I do like to hit mine with a power sprayer before bringing it in. something about the fumes of the WD40, and the stronger ones. Good luck!

Ordered full engine gasket set, engine/trans seal set, polished stainless hardware for motor, front wheel bearings with seals and fork seals with new dust caps. I also got some Progressive Suspension springs for the fork. I went with the 11-1109 spring .63/.80 kg/mm to better hold up to my 240lb fatass.

Brings tears to my eyes, I should be were he is at! still planning on cleaning the pistons :) Ohh procrastination is my friend. so all you school kids, that thought I was giving you a hard time, I am there now. keep up the good work!

Looking good! Looking at your pics brings me memories of when I tore mine up. I only wished I was close to you to help you. In return for my help, I would just want to learn how to tear that motor apart. I have a spare one that I would like to tinker with. Some day...

Keep up with the pics. Cheers!
