    Looking for Input

Well congrats on the new find. It looks to be in pretty fair shape. First and foremost get some fresh tires on there. An inexpensive set of Shinko's should do nicely. Meanwhile pull of that sissy bar and order some low rise handle bars. These are easy mods that wont take long. Here's my Hawk for...

    G-Max helmet brake light problems

I've honestly never seen this so I'm useless. But it sounds like its grounding out on something. Maybe you could throw in rechargeable LI batteries in there?

    HELP!

+1 The only thing you might find is flat slide carbs which arent worth your trouble. Buy used.

    Wire Tuck Question

Yeah, the more I think about it, it's probably better not to drill. And not very hard to hide them with a custom made harness. Mike I'm stockpiling wire to match up to oem line colors. Even got a blade style fuse box. But some colors are tough to find in less than 100 feet.

Right cylinder not firing (issue with points?)

By the holy trinity of Fuel, Air and Spark I compel you to meticulously check your carbs. Also a compression test couldn't hurt. You're getting spark so it stands to reason that you should be getting something out of the right.

    Bike dies while riding

:laugh2: This may be the first time I've ever seen a person get called out for NOT starting a new thread. But he's got a point lol

Please Help My Engine Wont Start

+1 for the cables. It seems as though there's enough voltage for the initial kick over but the moment the starter hits resistance and asks for more, everything goes dry. Also you should rule out your battery (I know it's new) by trying to start off of a different one. A jumper pack could help...

    Wire Tuck Question

Hey guys, I've been getting ready to make a new wiring harness for the XS. I realized it was a good idea after mocking up the essential electricals in the custom battery box. But I was having a beer with a friend who suggested running wires through the frame. I'd never considered it before now...

    Gramatron's Build

Thanks for the input mike. I've been doing little to no surface prep so I could improve there. The other annoying thing is spatter. So I need to order anti spatter spray. Unfortunately neither home depot nor the local small biz shops have much for welding supply. Killjoy I'll have to remember...

Certainly not up front. But it couldn’t hurt to research some options in the rear.

    Gramatron's Build

Curse you Ph-Bucket.. Sure, you can go back now and check it out. I also added some perpendicular stabilization to the rear mount so it wont bounce under load. But you'll need access to a welder and and angle grinder or something that can precision cut metal. A bench grinder is extremely handy...

Hah yeah I've got some metal about an inch up my fibula. But I Ran 4 miles the other day so it's down to "sports medicine" from here.

    Gramatron's Build

Checking in. Right after my last post I got into a wreck with a CB400t that I'd just restored. At the time I got to see what the bones in my ankle looked like. But I'm healthy again and wrenching. OH and I'm just learning about the photobucket disaster! So now I get to clean up the images as...

    Gramatron's Build

Thanks Liam I'll definitely try that for the next session. And spectra I looked into trying to convert the welder to use shielding gas but it's not built for it. I suppose I could rig up a bottle and feed tube to the tip. Paint: The 2k Aerospray is a good product, but it needs heat to cure...

    Gramatron's Build

Update: Bracket work has been an obstacle to making progress. And having access to a MIG welder is a blessing and a curse with that spatter. That said, I've been going to home depot for raw materials. With a lot of test fitting and a sharpie, I fashioned front and rear tank mounts that allow it...

Well It's Been a Fun Time Everyone, But....

to revive an old convo, I just picked up the RU-2980. I'm expecting to have to rejet at some point but I'll post my findings. http://www.xs400.com/threads/gramatrons-build.13228/

    Start of a long process

Wow man, I'm impressed. Finding parts to fit my goal has been a nightmare for my build. I'm looking to make a 2-1 exhaust. what did you use for the joint pipe?

Clip ons were added for that sporty feel with Rizoma style grips. Thankfully they've been the easiest mod to date. The tank allows for full swing of the front end.
