Found an 82 Seca engine with low mileage (13,000 kms) compared to my Maxim engine (66,000 kms). Will the Seca engine swap into a Maxim frame?

Lots of answers for the SOHC but not much for the DOHC.

Got the engine back together, new rings, valve seals, and lapped the valves. Had to tweak the idle screw to get it running but the manual says the a/f screws are preset. I have them set a 1.5 turns out. Anyone know the proper setting?

It's a DOHC gasket and o-rings.

Got the o-rings but confused about where they go. One manual says the dowels go on the right side of the cylinder but where do the seals go??

Both are missing???

Just edited my signature with bike info. Another question on the cylinder, the parts fiche shows an o-ring under one of the dowels. There wasn't one on my cylinder and there's no part number showing for it. Is it needed??

My Maxim is a DOHC.

Got a base gasket today off EBay. Noticed one side of the gasket has a slicone type of bead on it. Is this normal?

Since the dealer screwed up I'm getting the base gasket for free and I can keep the spare head gasket. Wish I had seen the auction before, would have went that route. Thanks.

Got them from Yamaha, $36 for the head gasket and $20 for the base gasket. Now I have 2 head gaskets!

I suspected they gave me duplicate parts. At least I can keep both head gaskets and the dealer is ordering the right base gasket - now wait 2 weeks to get it !!

Ordered a new base gasket and head gasket for my 82. Opened up the packages and they look to be the same - they both have metal inserts for the cylinders - shouldn't one be paper the other metal ??

Sure did - noticed lots of SOHC gaskets but not many DOHC.

Took about 3 hrs, but finally got the cylinder block off, the left piston rings were rusted. A slight hone of the cylinders should do the trick. The crank turns over easily now. Luckily I have a spare head, cylinder block, pistons/rings. Found some good prices on fleabay for gaskets. So now...

Clutch cable is seized, a minor problem now. Pulled the engine, a fun job but not that hard. The hardest part was getting the cam sprockets bolts out. Couldn't move the cams so had to make shift a 10mm wrench to get at the lower bolts, tight fit but got them out. Cylinder is stuck to the...

In neutral. I can see the clutch cable flex when I attempt to squeeze the lever but I'm going to pull the cover where the cable enters the block.

Bringing an 83 back to life. Bike sat for years. Pulled the spark plugs, hooked up a new battery but the engine won't turn over - it will try but something is stopping it. Took the gen cover off and attempted to turn the engine over with a socket. It turns about 1/4" but no further...

I've found Seafoam is a better product to run in the gas. Berrymans' is for soaking carbs after they have been removed from the bike.
