I bought the paint for it originally but I'm really liking it the way it is, so I think I'm going to leave it. The single colour really makes the tank look rounder and I like that. Any extra paint would probably take away from that

Oops meant 83! And red is a great colour but I wanted to try something diffeent

I love the colour, royal Audi blue. Was thinking on pin striping it with a metallic good, but I'm unsure now. The colour really brings out the beauty in the bike and gives it a bit of a retro look

Painted my 83 maxim 400! I'm actually quite impressed! No one will ever guess it was done by a 17 year old kid haha :D

Picked up base clear acrylic enamel paint (PPG) for my 83 maxim. Decided on a midnight blue base layer, with a metallic gold accent pinstripe and outlining that will compliment the blue. Took along time to get the tank to bare still, but here it is! Thanks to some 240 grit on the DA and aircraft...

sounds like it could be a ground issue, so hear me out on this one. I have an 84 maxim, so probably one wired exactly like yours. took the headlight bucket off to paint it, and put everything back together as it was. Went to start it, lights lit up fine, but when i went to push the starter...

Vacuum leak perhaps? Had same issue with mine, found it was just a cracked hose that went from the petcock to the intake boots, caused irradic idle

Got rid of the stock dash panel, fabbed up a mount and put on a single chrome speedo on the 83 Maxim 400 :thumbsup:

Trying to mount a custom single speedo on my 83 maxim 400, but the speedo cable wont clear the headlight bezel or key switch. Was thinking of getting a 90 degree cable adapter, which looks expensive according to ebay... wondering if anyone has ever gone this route? Looking for any tips or ideas...

Nice guys! might do my fusebox soon. Bought a speedometer from a local shop from an 01 Yamaha Virago V 535. Getting rid of that uugly plastic stock speedo tach set, swapping for a single speedo instead. Going to splice and create a custom box for the warning gauges tho! Will make a cardboard...
