1979 XS400; VIN 2L0 _ What do I own?

Hi everyone,

I went through the "History of the Yamaha..." thread as well as the model ID #'s and years thread. Kinda getting some conflicting ideas here and am hoping someone can clear this up.

Year: 1979
My 9 digit vin number 2L0******

Do I have a:

XS250F (2L0 only for euro bikes?)
XS400F

(how is XS4002F different than XS400F?)

I have a 1979 xs400f that starts with 2L0 for the vin too. I think the xs4002f was suppose to be a budget version. If I remember correctly it didnt include e-start and had drum brakes. But your tank looks like an earlier model tank so I'm not entirely sure. I have the teardrop shaped tank.
