'79 - Separating exhaust from pipe

Couldn't find it in the manual and before I go down the wrong path, what's the right way to separate the head pipe from the exhaust? I've removed the collar but it still feels solid.

Looks to be some form of bushing holding it in place, but I'm probably just "doing it wrong". Advice appreciated, but mockery also warranted.

If they have been on for a long time it may take a bit of force to get them off. Try to twist the muffler and pull.

take the complete exhaust off the bike including headpipe, makes twisting/pulling easier
