'79 XS400 VIN Number location?!

Hey all,

I'm attempting to register my bike, but I can't seem to locate the full VIN.

I've got the first three characters (3N3) - the 6 digits - but am missing the 8 digit serial number, don't see it on the sticker or the frame.

Looks like that's all there is to the VIN, sorry for the erroneous post.

Yep. I believe pre-81 is shorty vin (or whatever the manufacturer wanted to use).

Insurance company only has Maxim, Special, and Seca as far as sub models, but I believe mine is none of the above.

Anybody able to tell me if a 3N3 VIN designates any of the above 3?

I have a 78-79 xs400, the VIN, If I remember correctly is on the upper front portion of the frame, and I do not have a serial number either, but I believe that will not stop you from registering it. talk to your local insurance broker and tell them the situation
