The thing with the fins, appears to be a combo unit. Voltage Regulator. should have 3 whites wires for the recitfier, and the rest is for the voltage regulator.

Does anybody know how to test the ignition without replacing it? Don't have 100$ laying around to buy a new just to test it.

can you use a test light to trace back? start at the coil plugs and work your way back till you have no power?
Also managed to get my coils out too, not looking forward to putting them back in :/
Found my problem, one of the coils had rust/corrosion around the leads.
