Hey guys,

I found my front brake master cylinder is bone dry. The screws for the cap are all seized and stripped. I noticed this when I picked up the bike a couple weeks ago. Looking online for replacement cylinders and I keep finding 1/2" 5/8" or 14mm for measurements. My bike is a 82 maxim 400. Has anyone else run into this issue that may know the size of the piston? Or does it matter for the bike? I figure in the end the bigger cylinder will just apply more pressure to the brake system making the caliper apply faster.

Thanks for any information you guys can provide

Got this one for mine https://www.mikesxs.net/product/08-0253.html

And heres some good info I found when swapping masters, http://www.customfighters.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56704

Larger master cylinder actually decreases power of the brakes and decreases lever travel. can make it feel more like an on-off switch, can be good if you want the leaver to feel firmer

Smaller master increases the power and gives you more feel but also increases lever travel so you cant go to small or theyll feel spongy.

I think the stock front is 1/2inch which is 12.7mm so the 13mm one above would be fine. Also if you search around you can sometimes find new radial cylinders with remote reservoirs that look alot tidier for around the same $$$
