Tired of starting the bike after 25 kicks I finally treated the XS400 to an electronic ignition conversion from Yambits in the uk.

It cost £130 delivered and was worth every penny.

I got a local shop to fit it as I had heard on here and on the air cooled RD site how awkward they can be.
Also they are not a straight fitment.

The base plate had to be modified to fit.

It has cured the starting problem and now is 1 or 2 kicks and it starts and the tickover is perfect

My xs 400 and rd 250e.

Must be the Newtronic ignition? Haven't had too many mentions of it on here so it's good to get a good review.
Does it still use the mechanical advancer?

My 79 still has stock points ignition and starts on the first or second kick. Even with 35k miles on it. A well adjusted stock ignition still works fine but to go full tci is always the best way.

I had the pirana, but was very old stock.

It went a few years ago when the letf cyl didn't fire. went back to points but the bikes doesn't rev as easily, got the PAmco but the bike is mothballed for now as supercharging it
