Hello,
I have just purchased my first road bike and I am looking for a little help as I want to restore the bike

The title says 1983 yamaha 400

the vin is 15G-04015X

what is this bike in reality I was told it is a maxim but it has no badges on it except that it says yamaha above the stop light.

what colour would it be as I suspect a two tone paint job was not factory.

I do know the numbers on the neck match the engine so it is original.

any help or advice on picture uploading would be appreciated

Welcome!

Based on the VIN, your bike is a Maxim. It will have a mono-shock rear suspension, a DOHC 399cc engine with 5-speed transmission, round headlight, and alloy wheels with curved spokes (19" front, 16" rear).

I'm not aware of these bikes coming with a two tone paint scheme, but it is a 30 year old bike so who knows what a previous owner did to it?

Yes it has the curved spokes in the rims and a round headlight

I have no idea about the number of gears it has been stored for a couple of years and it is currently not running I have the carbs in some cleaner to get the varnish out of them

Is there any other info I can find out on this bike I have been poking around and I keep seeing the xs400l placed with the 15g vin so is my bike infact a 1984? the part of the paper sticker that had the actual date of manufacture is missing.
