How do i install these mufflers

Whats goin on!

I recently purchased these new mufflers for my 81 XS400.

They have 1 screw in them that seems to be used for tightening and securing. Has anyone used these before? Do I need a gasket? Do I need clamps of some sort?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Do they sleeve tightly over the header pipes? It looks like the screw hole is for running a sheet metal screw through it into the header pipe. Not a fan of that, I'd cut a small slit into the receiver and use a clamp to cinch it down onto the header pipe. It won't work if it's a loose fit though. Hope it helps

SO I just checked again, and removed the screw to see what happened. the screw holds the baffle and sound dampening piece inside. now I am completely at a loss haha

cut a 2mm slot either side and buy a decent exhaust clamp and you will be ok.

ensure it is a snug fit on the downpipes first tough

If it's a snug fit you won't need no gasket.
Otherwise take measure on the outer diameter of the downpipe and inner diameter of the exhaust. Then you can either use a reduction piece like in this set

or try to find a gasket from another bike that meets the measurements.
