I have a 1982 xs400 heritage, the serial number starts with 14W. I am assuming it's the same as a 14V, but sold in Canada. If this is correct, according to the info I have found here, that makes it an sj. I have downloaded the Yamaha service manual from here, but I can't find an sj model in it. Can someone tell me which model in the manual applied to my bike directly? I like to read so I might as well learn at the same time. Thanx in advance.

This is my 82 xs400 sj. It came from the factory black, but I changed it. It looks like yours has undergone a few mods:wink2: But I know the sohc 82 had mags in canada where u.s. bikes where spokes. As far as the motor and carbs, most 80-82 sohc bike specs will work for your bike. With your being a chopper a lot of the factory stuff is gone/changed or cut.
