So, I've just rebuilt the top end of a 82 Maxim 400 - rings, gaskets, and rehoned the valve seats. I had to do all this because of a leaking head gasket.

My question is on installing the valve seals. They are a ways down into the buckets, so lowered them down with pliers, and gently seated it with a small punch. Can anyone tell me how the seals looks where it contacts the valve stem? In moving the valves back and forth, it gives the impression that oil could possibly travel through the seal, so I'm wondering how a person might best know that they are properly seated.

Thanks!

I've already reassembled the head, I'm afraid. I'll know tomorrow when I get the motor reinstalled if she fowls with oil or not!!
