G'day!

So I am putting my 1980 Xs400 Special II back together and I've discovered that the left coil orange wire's insulation cover is cracked!! Do I need to replace it or just use some good old electrical tape?

Is there a way to test them to see if they are good?

Thanks for the help!!

That isn't cracked insulation. Some meat head probed the wire with a test light or multimeter! And then left it like that!

I'd suggest using Liquid Electrical Tape - it is actually called that! It is a can of brush on rubber like material. 2 or 3 coats of that and your wire will be all sealed up.

Dave! My brother!

Now that you say that, with the pic zoomed in, you are right. You can tell what it looks like a "blade" cut around the edge of it.

I hate those meat head previous owners that do not know what in hell they are doing violating these beauties :)

Thanks for the suggestion. Will go to the store later today and get some.

Cheers!

I like the liquid electrical tape as well; it comes in handy when shrink tubing can't be easily placed where you need it.
