I cut about 2" off mine, a lot of guys cut 2 1/2" off. Compress the spring, pull the top dust cover down, put a wrench on the "nut", put a screw driver through the top mount and screw it off. Cut the spring and reassemble.
Compress the spring, pull the rubber bump stop and dust cover down, put a wrench on what looks like a nut, put a screwdriver through the top mount hole and spin it off.
