I recently put clubman bar on my 81 400 and now I have a bunch of slack in the front brake cable, throttle cable and a fair amount in the clutch cable.

Does anyone have a recommendation for place to find shorten cables and hoses?

I've tried mikesxs and they don't seem to be much help. I've looked at dime city cycles and nothing states the length.

Any ideas????

They're likely going to be custom cables.

There are kits out there to make your own or you can attempt to DIY using solder, wood and a torch. I shortened my own but it takes some practice to make nice ends.

I made a tiny forge out of some spare aluminum bar stock I had by drilling out a slightly oversized well and a slot for the cable to run in and heating to melt lead solder around the cable end. Just make sure the cable's reasonably frayed at the end so it gets good purchase on the lead.

If you are looking for parts to make a new cable I would strongly suggest looking to these guys:

I was having a problem finding a front brake cable for my 1978 XS400 and they were able to come up with a kit to make my own. They were good about relying to my email question and shipping was fast and reasonable.

One nice thing about their "make it yourself" kits is that you are able to install it on the bike and see how it fits before you put the ends on so you know it looks good.

The basic throttle kit:

Under $17.00 not bad in my book. The front brake kit they sent me was actually a clutch kit and it worked out perfect. Better than trying to guess it it should be 47 inches or 49 inches.

Wow! This is exactly what I'm looking for! Thank you for this recommendation. This will take care of everything. I really like that stainless throttle cable kit they have!

if you are using the "custom" style handle bar and then convert over to clubman, why not try the earlier cable from a C or D model
