who knows where i can find a springer front end for my 81?

There is no bolt on solution that I am aware of. I don't think I've ever seen a 400 with a springer front end, but there may be some out there.
You'll probably have to make something work yourself. You might have better luck just searching google in general for custom springer conversions to get an idea of what's involved.

Right on! And that place is only 45min from where i work. i think ill stop in there this week sometime.

i see their sight has front ends for a 650. does anyone know if it would fit a 400?

The main problem with fitting a different front end is the length of the stem. Most springers are made to fit a Harley length neck. Which is a bit shorter than the XS650 neck.
