Will gas tanks made for a Yamaha XS650 fit a XS400?

I have built up 2 cb750s before but have never had much knowledge on Yamaha'ss. Its a 79 XS400 and we are Evening Gowns building it into a cafe racer for my cuz. I always find parts for the 650, now looking for a cafe tank. So I was wondering if the tank fitments are the same? If not where can I find some. Not the stock tank either. Thanks!

No, it won't fit.

I have never seen any bolt-on options. Plenty of people have put on custom tanks, but they are always modified to some degree.

Some people literally go to a yard and try different tanks on to see what works best.

Hemmm where have i heard this question beforeYour best option on another tank to fit is to use a rear hole mount system.You can cut the bracket off the top of your frame and move it to where it needs to be for the other tank then reweld it on

I tried and the 650 tank is a lot narrower, If you relocated the coils and reworked the mounting point it would work (I think). Not a bolt on deal.
